Mud, Sweat n’ Gears was established in 1992 as a high end mountain bike shop, and quickly regarded as one of the best in the business. Eventually, ski and snowboard equipment became part of the inventory, and from that point on Mud, Sweat n´ Gears was known as one of the finest outdoor stores in Ellicottville. In the spring of 2000, we bought the operation. It was the opportunity we had dreamed about. As a husband and wife team, we knew if we pooled our years of experience in the ski industry together we could create a successful, down-to-earth store, unique in its range and level of service. We made a commitment to create a great specialty store solely dedicated to the outdoor sports we enjoy.

SKI Magazine Gold Medal Ski Shop
In October of 2000, we moved the business from a small corner location to a large storefront on the main street of Ellicottville. And here we are today...right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of town. We have a great location that's as much a gathering place as it is a store. It didn't take long before SKI Magazine (October 2001; October 2003; October 2005) recognized Mud, Sweat n´ Gears as a first rate ski and snowboard shop for carrying the best brands in the business, and providing customers with personal, knowledgeable, and attentive service. In October 2005, Skiing Magazine rated Mud, Sweat n’ Gears as one of the top 35 specialty shops in the entire country. The biggest awards to date have been receiving the SKI Magazine Gold Medal Ski Shop Award for two consecutive years, honoring Mud, Sweat n' Gears as one of the best specialty ski and snowboard retailers in the nation.
